I have a 97 legacy with a bad 4EAT transmission. I am trying to find out what years and models will fit.

There are several threads dealing with this. Please try and search.

 

Basically, you need to match the rear diff ratio with the front.

 

Other then that, most newer non-vtd type subaru transmissions should work
