grinding gears

Featured Replies

ok everyone i have another issue with my beloved 83 GL wagon.

this is a 4X4, 4speed EA81. with a newly rebuilt engine, new clutch, new CV joints, and a new right HUB. what else can go wrong?

when the car is running i cant get her into reverse, it grinds, also she is hard shifting into gears while driving?

whats wrong?

Bryan

First thought is that the clutch is misadjusted, in that it is not releasing the clutch enough.

I agree.

After you get the clutch adjusted, change the gear oil in the tranny. Substitute 1 quart of gear oil with Rislone. It can be bought at most parts stores and Wal-mart. It will clean up the syncros. Leave it in for a couple thousand miles, than change it out again with just gear oil.
