My '98 Forester has a blown head gasket. Since the differential is whining, we figured it would be a good time to do everything. My question is can I use the drive train and engine out of an Outback? It's a 2004. Any information will be GREATLY appreciated.

Well yes, if you have an expert Subaru shop to help you. There have been several threads on this and I suggest you do a search. It is not plug and play but the experts know what to swap.
