murphsubaru
I have a 99 Forester, the ABS is not working. The abs light does not come on when the ignition is on, {car not running} nor does it come on when the car is running. According to the manual this indicates an abs problem. What could the problem be?????
sea#3
Are you sure you have ABS ? not all 99 foresters had ABS . The ABS /hydraulic unit is located on the right side front , by the headlamp , underneath the air intake snorkel SEA#
murphsubaru
Yes, It used to work before the rear wheel bearings were replaced. Are you sure you have ABS ? not all 99 foresters had ABS . JPX
Check to see if the ABS sensor was reinstalled. When changing wheel bearings, the hub/knuckle assembly has to be removed from the car. And the wire for the ABS speed sensor needs to be disconnected. If this was either not reinstalled or the wire not reconnected, then the wheel will not send a useful signal to the ABS controller. sea#3
Yes, It used to work before the rear wheel bearings were replaced. The next thing is check the fuses , relays( in the fuse box under the hood) and connection at the ABS / hydraulic unit . if thats ok it maybe the light bulb is simply burnt out . The reason it's not working may be the work that was done on the rear wheel bearings , one of the sensors or its wiring maybe damage which will set a code and the ABS will stop working until the code is cleared SEA#
murphsubaru
How do you clear the code??? When the bearings were replaced the sensor was left unplugged and water shorted it out. The sensor was replaced, but still abs is not working, I tested this in the snow Saturday.
