I have a 99 Legacy L Wagon with manual transmission. Then the clutch is engaged there is a noise as if a frayed cable is rubbing (TFT-TFT-TFT-TFT), increasing in frequency with RPM. When I shif gears and step on the clutch, it disappears and reappears when the cluch is re-engaged in a new gear. What could it be and how to take care of it?:cornfuzz:

it sounds like a tired clutch to me. Sometimes they start to come apart and pieces flap about when the pedal is down. Tough to tell when you cannot hear the noise.

Have it looked at by a mechanic as it might fail if it is what I suspect.
