February 12, 200620 yr Hi everyone....new here....just bought a 1986 1.8 GL Wagon...doing lots of work on it....anyone know where the fuel filter is located? Thanks in advance, Doc
February 12, 200620 yr If it's carbureted, the fuel filter is underneath next to the fuel pump and in front of the tank. Use vise grips or clamps to shut off fuel flow to the filter when you change it. It's at the lowest point on the system, and you'll get a gas bath if you don't. If it's fuel injected (including turbo models) the fuel filter is in the engine compartment just in front of the wiper motor. Make sure you relieve the pressure before you change it.
February 12, 200620 yr Author Thanks for the help! I found it, but don't think I'll attempt to repair. It looks like the fuel line to the tank needs replaced and I'm not sure how to replace it without fuel rushing out. Thanks too for the tip about clamping the line...I didn't even think about that!
