Subarian
How much more HP/torque does the N/A MPFI have than the SPFI?
hooziewhatsit
from here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/specs/mechanical/engine-specs.html 86-94 1800 1781 90HP @5600 - 101TQ @2800 EA-82 SPFI 87-91 1800 1781 97HP @5200 - 103TQ @3200 EA-82 XT MPFI I'm presuming the XT MPFI was the non-turbo version, since the turbo listing on that page was 115HP@5200 so... looks like only 7HP and 2ft/lbs of torque between SPFI & MPFI. For some reason I thought it would be more of a difference...
TROGDOR!
Isn't much on paper, but there's a big real world difference. The SPFI has the typical ruggedness of most EA82's, it's a brute of an engine, very tough and gets the job done. The MPFI is just as reliable if not more so, but is much more smooth and refined. It reminds me more of an EJ than an EA. I have one in one of my RX's now and it's a pleasure to drive.
MilesFox
i put n/a mpfi cams on my spfi motor with ported heads. drives m ore like an ej18 i think. its rather torquey. dual exhausts with harley mufflers i think the ej 18 hets about 105-110 hp, i would give my motor at least 100if maybe 105. got to get into more every-day driving to figure it out ,the mufflers help a lot
