Gear ratios?

Featured Replies

I read some stuff about gear ratios and I am still confused. Are all turbo GL's 3.7 auto or manual and all non turbo GL's 3.9 auto or manual? And is there a stamp or lable on the transmission that tell u the gear ratio for the front diff?

There's not anything on the trans to tell you, at least not that I'm aware of. But you can look at the rear diff, because it's matched to the trans.

I got the 5-spd tranny and diff off of a car in a JY. The diff was a 3.9. On the console there was a diff lock switch but this was not a locking diff. The car had alot of new parts on it so I think someone put the wrong diff in it and junked it because it wasn't workin out, but I am not sure.

If the tranny is out of a turbo car and is a dual range then it is 3.7. If it is a d/r that came out of a non-turbo then is a 3.9.

Hope this helps

Turbo cars are 3.7

Thanks. I bet you a million dollars this car was in the junkyard because someone put a 3.9 in it and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. It only had 100,000 miles on it, 4 new axles, new alt, all of the fluids looked like they were just changed, and alot of other stuff. I tried to get the yard to sale me the whole car but they wouldn't.
