February 20, 200620 yr I have a 1995 Legacy wagon 2.2L AWD, but the "engine type" digit is 6, correponding to the 2.5L engine in the link above. I'm pretty sure it is not a 2.5L engine, what gives? VIN begins like this: 4S3BK6555S7..
February 20, 200620 yr That's why you don't trust Wikipedia There is SOOO much incomplete info on that site... The 6 can mean early 2.2's, and early 2.5's.
February 20, 200620 yr This is why I personally prefer Subaru Fast software. splicesite just for fun can you try entering your vin on http://www.subaru-sale.ru/vin/ It's in russian but should be pretty intuitive. I wonder if it will screw up or not. You can translate output page later if anything is not clear.

February 21, 200620 yr Author Hmmmm... this is a puzzler for me then. I'm trying to figure out from the VIN if the car is AWD. The Legacy is out of state and the guy says it's rear wheel drive. So I ask if he means AWD and he says nope, rear wheel drive. :-\ And the 11th digit is "B" which doesn't appear in any of the info I've seen here. Anybody have any clues? The number is JF1BJ6525LB938786. I put the number in the russia site and got nothing useful. The other sites offer no explanation for the "B" that I could see. thx all- kudd
