My windshield wipers take one swipe every couple minutes or so (dont know exactly) I can still turn them on and use them though. I havnt given it much thought because it doesnt bother me that much. Sorry no reward for this one folks.

looking for front end parts for 81 hatch

(struts, rack and pinion, tie rods, steering etc.)

I'd say its the wiper control relay going bad.

When mine did it, it used to kill the ignition circuit at the same time!
