93 Legacy Speedo Iffy, How to remove Instrument Panel?

Featured Replies

93 Legacy Turbo. Speedo is intermittent.

I am an electronics engineer and think I can diagnose the problem: dry joint?

But how do I remove the instrument panel?

What's your exact problem with the speedo?

To get at the combination meter you have to remove the black plastic trim.

However you may not have to do that.....but it'd be nice to know what your exact problems are.

I assume by "combination meter" you do mean the instrument panel? I have a rev counter and a speedometer.

Sometimes reads correctly. Other times zero to anywhere up to max. Yesterday it held at 140 for ca. 10 miles then OK. Five minutes later zero.

Day before driving to work was at 160, evening return dropped back to normal, etc., etc.

Yeah...combination meter is the instrument panel/gauge cluster.

Yeah....does sound like it's the meter, I don't think the cable would be causing this.

Like I said, to remove the instrument gauge cluster, you have to remove the black trim around it. There are some hidden screws, and you will probably have to pop out the vents and switches to get at all the screws. You also will probably either have to remove the two bolts that hold the steering column to the dash so the steering wheel lowers. This will give you enough clearance to get the black trim piece out. The other option is to remove the steering wheel.
