March 2, 200620 yr I was just checking my compression and #1, all cylinders were almost exactly the same except the #2 cyl is 15lbs lower than all the otheres ... and I was curious at what point would you concider it ready to need major work? the book says no more than 12 - 14 lbs differance ... so does that mean a little sea-foam or a little valve job?
March 2, 200620 yr I've always used 10% as a rule of thumb when comparing compression between cylinders. More than that, and it's time to start looking for solutions. I've never tried the seafoam in the intake route, but it might clean up your valves and seats enough to make a difference. If not, you're not out a lot of money.
March 2, 200620 yr Hey FlyBoy This is Jerry, if i remember right your brat has adjustable rockers. Adjust the valves and recheck the compression you will find that it will make a difference. Thanks Jerry
March 2, 200620 yr just curious... did you do it while the engine was warm, and had the throttle plate held open?
March 2, 200620 yr Author Heya Jerry, ty for the info, but I have hydrolic lifters, but I believe I found the problem ...I didn't crank over the engine for long enough and with my over-sized alt #2 was hard to get to and I didn't have a good seal ... now I got compression as follows #3 cyl 145 PSI #1 cyl 150 PSI #4 cyc 145 #2 cyl 155 PSI so I'm doing ok ... now I just need to get the !#@$!@##!@!! lock-tight to hold on my #3 cyl on the heli-coil repair ... oh well :-p
