1998 Forester L

Featured Replies

Thinking about a 1998 L with 185,000 miles. I searched the threads about Foresters and there's really negative and really positive feedback on the Foresters, not exactly year specific. With 185k miles, what should I be looking, listening for? I'd appreciate feedback on the 1998 Forester. I might test drive it tomorrow. Thanks.

A lot of opinions but I would start with head gaskets. After that wheel bearings, and then every else like a normal car.

The head gaskets are tricky becuase it would be very hard to tell unless you took it on a long run.

Please have a trust worthy shop check the car out for you so you don't get burned.
