Hitachi Air Screw Adjustment on EA82

Featured Replies

I'm assuming the angled screw on the front face of the carb is the air screw. Correct? If so, what is the starting point for setting it? I screwed it in 5 turns  and it still wasn't seated. I have no manual that covers this. Engine is on a 86 4WD wagon.

not sure what your asking, are you looking for the low idle mixture screw or the idle rpm screw?

the low idle mixture screw is right can be seen between the air filter assembly and the power steering reservoir, pretty much dead center near base of carb. the idle rpm screw is just to the left of it likely covered up by some hoses so make sure you have a longer screw driver for that one.

may sound dumb but make sure the engine is warm before adjusting anything other wise it wont be accurate. if you don't know how to adjust the low idle mixture i'm more then happy to tell you how to do that...aw hell its not hard; first make sure engine is warm, second turn the idle mixture screw until the engine starts running ruff and then back it off until it runs smooth (as much as these engines can, mine always runs a little ruff) and then walk away. if you manage to turn you mixture screw all the way and the engine doesnt run really ruff or stall all together...replace or rebuild the carb

something else i found is that when i adjusted the high idle the low idle also rose proportionately.

Thanks Pheonix. Yeah, I'm looking for the low idle mix screw. I wanted to make sure I had the right one before tweaking with it. I'll go out and give it a try.

while i'm thinking of it make sure you check you settings every now and then, while i stand by my hitachi...a word to the weary from the wise; for whatever reason these carbs don't seem to maintain there settings, just one of there downsides.
