anyone know how many degrees advanced you are when you run out of advance adjustment on a ea81 distributor?

 

cos thats where my'n is, being on lpg i decided to to push my luck and see how far foward i could advance my ignition timing without it pinging......its now advanced till there ain't no more, and has been for the last 3000km.

 

i don't think it could be advanced any more because it sometimes stops dead when being cranked to start, but it runs like champ.

As far as ajustment you never run out. You just need to pull disty up and move it by one tooth. You will have problems starting as you mention and overheating is the other thing. From what I have always known advance till pinging then back off 1 to 2 degrees and that is best timing for that set up on any gas motor.
