My 92 Legacy--215,000 miles--experiences loss of power and loud knocking climbing hills when the car is restart. This only happens when the engine has been turned off and restarted. Once the car travels for several miles the problem disappears. Car runs great except for this problem.

Sound like the type of problem that i have been having with my 1992 230,000kms legacy. (I have not noticed the Knocking though)

 

A thread in the achives describes others who have had this problem. But I have never seen or found a solution. One guy (cant remember his name) said that the repair shop had found the problem and he would report back. He never did !

do a search for this; "The Saga's Final Outcome" Grounded1 had similar symptoms and finally found that catalytic converter to be the problem.
