The brake pedal on my 94 Legacy wagon is starting to make a creaking noise when applying the brakes. It sounds as if it is coming from around the firewall. It sounds like a lack of lubrication somewhere. I lubed the pivot points on the pedal, but it is still there. Could it be the vacuum booster?

Most unlikely that it is coming from inside the booster, but nothing is impossible.

 

Maybe there is a joint you missed? Perhaps the bolts holding the booster need tightening?

I have the same problem with my '92 Legacy. How did you go about lubricating it???

I like to use a "dry" oil for such things, you know the sort that leaves a wax film on components. "Wet" oils will always run and find thier way into places they shouldn't be - like on the brake pedal rubber!!

What is the brand on that? Do I just squirt it down the pedal shaft from the floorboard???

My clutch pedal does the same thing. How do I make it stop?

Well, there's a company that makes stuff for bikes: "Finish Line"

 

I believe their dry oil is called "Krytech" - but just ask for it in any mountainbike shop...and hopefully they'll have it or something similar

 

It can be a royal pain in the backside to apply in the under dash hinges, ideally, remove the driver seat (only five bolts) so you have room to get upside down!

A couple drops of brake fluid on the rubber/steel mating surfaces will usually stop those noises.
