I have a 99 Legacy Outback

 

P0500 Vehicle speed sensor malfunction

P1507 Idle control system malfunction (fail-safe)

P1540 Vehicle speed sensor malfunction 2

 

The engine is idleling very rough and I got the following codes. I have found a few treads on this but I haven't found anybody that has posted their fix. If you are one of those folks that has had the exact same problem, can you let me know what fixed it.

 

For now I am going to:

Clean the airflow sensor

Check Speed Sensors

I'd recommend clearing the codes and seeing what codes come back. That should help you diagnose whether the problem is just a random fault, or an actual problem.

While I was witing for a reply I tried fiddling with the Vehicle Speed Sensor 2. I found the cable to the sensor was damaged and as a result was causing the faults.
