coming home last night down a serious BFE road, start hearing a fast thumping noise when i hit rough spots. check if tire is flopping, no. keep going. get home, pull my right rear tire/wheel back and forth and the whole thing shifts, i feel in the shock boot, and it's all effed up. i do believe i blew out my shock, i know it needs a new on and it will be done ASAP but how much can i expect for repairs on this? thanks a lot......BTW ('97 legacy)

You did more then blow out the strut. The top mount is loose, or the nut holding the strut to the top mount is loose, or something else is loose.

 

Do not drive the car until you have it fixed.
