WOHVA Land Action Committee - committee members needed

As you know, the WA OHV Alliance (establishing and communicating all ATV, 4WD & (Off Highway Motorcycle) OHM agreed upon positions) is working on two major land use issues at this time.

1) Have a WOHVA volunteer assigned to each public land manager in WA State. These volunteers will need to have face-to-face contact with their land manager in the area they live and/or ride, often enough to be recognized as a WOHVA point of contact. This includes BLM, DNR & USFS land management. We hope to have a well charted organization of volunteers with at least one volunteer per land manager in 2007. These volunteers will be the people who communicate issues from those Districts to the WOHVA land use committee and communicate WOHVA information to that land manager. This subcommittee will create and maintain this contact list of email, phone numbers, and U.S. Mail address information.

2) The clock is moving very fast on the USFS Travel Management Plan which will CLOSE every motorized route not designated as open in 2009! A subcommittee of volunteers needs to work together this winter to ensure that we have properly identified and requested every existing motorized route on the Wenatchee - Okanogan National Forest to remain open. We must also identify and request every potential motorized route to be opened under this Travel Plan.

This project needs people who are very experienced on the ground in the Wenatchee - Okanogan (and soon every other National Forest in WA State). We will be using the NOHVCC DVD to create GPS data for submission. To read NOHVCC's Press Release or order your copy click the following link. http://www.nohvcc. org/IMAGES/ prgps.asp. Lots of this work can be done using our PCs and various GPS compatible mapping software. Some of it will undoubtedly need to be done on the ground with GPS tracking devices after the snow melts. This subcommittee will actually put together detailed information and provide it to the USFS through our land management contacts and official channels.

Remember, these projects encompass all wheeled motorized use, ATV, 4WD & OHM in WA State. Please help! Remember to get your riding buddies involved too!

In-person committee meetings will be held to re-establish committee and subcommittee officers. However, much of the detailed work can be accomplished without in-person meetings. So sign up and help get these projects going!

Send an email to dhiatt@hpgmc. com stating what parts of this you would like help with. I will coordinate the initial meeting so we get these going. However, our By-Laws specify that WOHVA Board of Directors, such as myself, are not permitted to be a committee chair.

Thanks,

Dave Hiatt

WOHVA Secretary
