Hey bud, I wish I could help, but I was thinking of installing that myself...how much did it cost you?

Josh!

I installed an aftermarket in my 02 Forester....IT's Great....Paid $20 for it on Ebay. Just took off console/boot and knob. Unbolted shifter actuator from shifter. Now here's the "hard" part...Popped the old shifter ball out of it's socket. Kinda like removing a 'turkey' leg. Used a Screwdriver in the bolt hole for leverage. Popped the new one in with a tap from a rubber mallet. Then put it all back together....15-20 minutes.

Did it over a year ago and haven't looked back.:-p

i got it for like 13 bucks but they ripped me off with the shipping, it was like 13 also, anyway, i know how to do it and all, but how did you get the "ball" out of the top of the transmission, i pulled as hard as i could and nothing....

I put a large screwdriver thru the bolt hole from the transmission actuator. Then used a book or something to use as a fulcrum, then 'poped' it out.
