Alright well my subi wagon is pushing 250k miles and since I got it have been replacing every component and fluid under the hood. I am a mechanic so I have access to lifts, flush machines, air tools etc etc. Well at my work we have a fuel flush kit, works similar to seafoam but is made by wynns.

 

Well yesterday I thought it would be wise to do a fuel flush kit, while cleaning the combustion chamber I noticed minimal to no smoke coming out of the exaust wich already meant a pretty healthy clean motor, after I finished I disconnected the battery for a good 6 hours while I worked on some electrical stuff. After reconnecting the battery and turning on the car the rpms went up but quickly dropped and did the symptoms of what looked like a vacumn leak because the rpms were bouncing up and down. once on the road the problem corrected itself and it idled fine. later when I drove it again it did the same symptom upon start up and fixed itself after a minute or 2 of driving. What I'm asking is would this be the norm after having the battery disconnected for so long? I remember having a similar issue when I disconnected the battery to install the clutch. No CEL codes in the memory and nothing being tripped, it's an OBDII system.

 

cliff notes: I had the battery disconnected for a while, now when I start my car it has a bouncy idle like a vacumn leak but corrects itself after driving. what could cause that? Oh and don't CC flush your motor if it has 250k on the clock, the gunks holding it together

 

 

P.S. So I don't have to make another thread I plan on puchasing a short shifter for the wagon I looked on ebay and they have a short shifter you install wich reduced travel by 40-60%. links here:

It's a good hundred bucks cheaper than the dealer short shifter but I wanted to see if anyone has experience with this shifter OR the dealer SS.

I have a manual tranny and I no I did not, didn't know there was a relearn method for a manual car. I've had to do a relearn process on specific automatic cars but never a manual. What would the process be?
