Best Brand Head Gasket

Featured Replies

Hi All: Just wondering which brand of

head gasket in your opinion is the best to use as replacements on the EJ-25 DOHC.

Thanx!

BD

i think the general consensus has been to stick with subaru. they have the most incentive to get it fixed, so they have been putting the most resources to finding a head gasket that works.

the part number for the current revision is: 11044AA610

Do you happen to know the latest revision of the Phase 2 EJ25 SOHC head gasket?

My 2001 Outback leaked coolant externally when new on very cold days (-30 Celsius), and I may request a new gasket if I smell coolant on the next cold day.

The two weeks after I bought my 2001 Outback were very cold, and the dealer said that coolant leaks were somwhat normal on brand new cars. The dealer indicated that it takes a while for the seals and gaskets to properly seat themselves, and I agreed with them. In my second and third winter I only smelled coolant once, and have no signs of a leak or coolant loss. This is my fourth winter, and the last winter in which I will have a powertrain warranty to change the head gasket under.

I did clean lower back driver's side of the engine a few weeks back, so any coolant leak should be easy to notice. So far no problem down to -10 celsius.

I just love how these dealers blow off problems under the guise that it's "normal". Normal coolant leaks don't flush in my book. I had a Saturn that started

using a quart of oil every 300 miles or so.

Guy said "Oh, thats normal". Turns out

they had a bad batch of blocks that the bores wore out. Fortunately I had a 1000 miles to go on warranty and got a new motor.

IMO, anytime ANYONE at a dealer says ANYTHING that sounds like, "Oh, that's normal...," it is time to run to this forum & get the straight scoop. Even a waterpump dynamic seal is NOT supposed to leak & when it does it means something is wrong and needs. repair. Static seals are the same thing. To these dealer jokers, anything to get you outta their face or divert your attention from their ignorance will be used on you. It is not nor will be anything but BS!:argue:
