Clutch in, now idle speed is high

Featured Replies

So my clutch is in, still havent got word from thepartsbin, anyways now my idle is like 1200 rpms. tried messing around with it this afternoon. My idle screw doesnt even touch the throttle anyway, nor did it ever........

Did the throttle cable get pulled or tweaked or mangled?

Did you leave a vacuum hose off? Vacuum leaks can cause high idle speeds.

This means you're cable is too tight. See the two nuts where it;'s secured to the bracket? Move them further down the shaft of the cable housing, this will slacken the cable and allow for adjustment via idle screw.

ya, I already tried adjusting those an the cable is not the issue. Could be a hose i'll have to inspect a little further

Okay, I was gonna say "adjust the cable" earlier but I figured "let carb people tell him what to do.."

Let me put this another way: your throttle drum NEEDS to touch that idle screw. For some strange reason, it is not. If your throttle cable is truly properly adjusted (it IS supposed to have some slack in it) then there is some other reason it doesnt travel back to its "stop" point. Find THAT problem. Once THAT is dealt with, and you STILL have your idle problem, come back to us.

Your car WILL NOT IDLE at the proper RPM without the throttle plate being all the way closed; the throttle plate is not all the way closed (or even close) unless the drum is resting against the adjuster screw.

I did have a vacuum leak but that didnt solve anything, im sure I'll see the Dr. today an it'll be diagnosed.
