Hybrid or drop in 2.5, what should I do?!?!?

Featured Replies

Ok, I was heading out to the garage to put my hybrid 2.5 phase 2 block with phase 1 EJ22 dual port heads together. I started looking at what exactly I would have to do to the head gasket to make it work. Came back in and jumped on to see what other people have done to make them work. I found some threads that I haven't seen before mentioning after the hybrid build it didnt seem any faster than a normal phase 1 25.

So from peoples experience and research what should I do? I have a 2.5 phase 1 block, a low mileage phase 2 block, phase 1 EJ 25 heads and phase 1 EJ22 heads. If there isn't much diff between the hybrid and the dual cam power wise I will probably just throw the phase 2 block in with the dual cam heads to avoid as high octane and adjusting coolant passages in the gasket. Also if it is leaning more toward the Hybrid build, are there any good threads on HG modification floatin around?

And for other info on the setup it is a 96 Lego O/B 2.2 5 Speed. I will be running an EL header w/test pipe, perrin pulley, and have 2.25 bent for after the test pipe. It is an on road off road toy lifted 4 inches with mudders on it.

i would go with the dual cam set up. the benefits to risk/effort ratio doesn't look good to me. keep in mind performance and hybrid knowledge i know not. the DOHC 2.5 was the highest output of the older EJ's, can't imagine junking those. and far easier. spend that time/effort on something else, it's an NA anyway, the effort on NA motors just isn't worth it in my oppinion if power is what you're after. spend that time port matching the intake manifold, intake manifold gaskets and intake ports on the heads.
