Initially the distributor was just really old and worn out (280k+ miles on the car). The shop mentioned that the brushes and various electrical stuff inside were all shot. When it came back from them the first time, something must've come loose during transit, because it wouldn't work at all. The second time was the charm however :) My subie has been working great ever since.
