DerFahrer Posted December 26, 2003 Share Posted December 26, 2003 I'm stumped as to why my XT has one absolutely useless belt? The back belt drives the PS pump and the A/C compressor. The front belt drives the PS pump, the A/C compressor, and the alternator. I could take the back belt off and all accessories will still be driven... And the point of this is? CIS Subaru Posted December 26, 2003 Share Posted December 26, 2003 Take a look at the amount of surface area that the front belt has in contact with the A/C pulley. The belt would just slip on that pulley when the A/C kicked on if you didn't have the rear one to help it.
