A work associate, knowing I own many Subies, came to me with a problem he's having with his Impreza RS.

 

He describes the noise as coming from the rear, and it sounds as if he has snow tires on. I hum if you will.

 

He put new tires on and it persists.

 

Anyone care to speculate?

Sounds like a rear wheel bearing. Those I've heard sound like a steel caster rolling across a concrete floor.
