85 ea82 sedan - what parts will fit

Featured Replies

may be able to buy an 85 turbo dual range sedan at the right price

will go look at it tomorrow

what i want to know is -

how much of the stuff can i use on my brat

from my seaches i have found that the dual range 5 speed has different axle stubs and also may have a higher final drive ratio and possibly a higher low range - this would not be an issue as this brat is mostly street or gravel and is my DD - not a trail rig

will the axle stubs from my S/R 4 speed fit in the 5 speed?

it should have rear discs ? that i can use on my brat fairly easily...

the engine is dead but can i use stuff like power steering, a/c(thats a stretch)?

what about fuel delivery? does the turbo engine use a fuel injection system?

could it be adapted to my ea81 like a n/a SPFI?

i will continue seaching as there is a heap of info on here

on a side note i am going back to Aust for a holiday is ther anything i should sqeeze into my suitcase for the trip home (other than a bullbar, some 14" speedies etc)

thanks in advance

if the trans is a 3.9 the axles will work from your car so you can use it in ur car the 3.7 wont work it has 25 spline you have 23 spline you will need a 5 speed conversion kit from bratsrus1 and i would use the rear diff aswell so you know you have the same ratio in the front and rear. as for the power steering it can be used but you will need to make your own brake and its really not worth it. same with the AC anyhting els on the motor is usless to you the turbo ea82 is dule port intake so it wont bolt to ur engine and its MPFI so not really any fuel parts will work.

so if it has a 3.9 diff ratio it will have 23 spline axles -

or is the fact that it is a turbo confirm it will have 25 spline axles?

is there a way to confirm this?

the next question i guess is if it is no good to me is it useful for anyone else for parts?

If it is a Turbo with an RX 5 speed D/R with Diff lock then it should have 3.7 final ratio and 25 spline axles. You can swap the stubsout of the tranny with some 23 spline stubs and then it will work with your EA81 axles. All turbo EA82s with manual transmissions had 25 spline axles while it appears the turbos with automatics had 23 spline axles...

About the only things of interest for you to swap to your brat would be the trans, rear disk breaks, and the LSD rear diff if it has one. The power steering can be adapted, but you will need a custom bracket.

thanks Bill

so any 23 spline stub shaft will work?

like the ones from my 4 speed

i may go though the gearbox anyway - brgs, seals etc

i can't see the sticker on the diff to see if it has LSD

but i would need to put in the diff anyway if it is a 3.7

i'll have a 3.9 right?

I would say use 5 speed 23 spline stubs just to be safe, but I really dont know if the 4 speed stubs are the same or not. As for the rear diffs, yes your brat should have 3.9 ratio, so you would need to swap in the 3.7 diff to match the RX trans, otherwise bad stuff happens :dead:
