looking for any info on changing the 4spd (4x4) in my 89 gl to a 5spd 4x4 the year of transmissions will be the same. are the rear drive shafts the same? any mods or adaptations I will have to make? There is lots of info on here about this, try using the search function. But no the driveshafts are not the same, you will need the driveshaft from the donor car with the 5 spd. Then you will need to make a center bearing mount for that driveshaft. Also the tranny crossmember as well, then you'll need to combine the two tranny crossmembers to make one that will fit the 5 spd tranny onto the car. Also, you'll need to change the shift linkage.
