New to the forum--High beam issues Legacy GT

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 99 Legacy GT and my high beams stopped working recently... for a while they would work off and on and I would just have to flick the switch a few times to get them to come on but now they don't come on at all...

I know it isn't bulbs or fuses..but I think it might be the headlight stock itself on the steering column. If I pull the stock towards the wheel and hold it the highs and the the indicator light on the cluster come on.

Is this a common problem? Could it be a relay?

Thanks!

Welcome to the board.

As you have diagnosed, I believe the problem is with the stalk. I have heard of this issue before, so I'd recommend on replacing the stalk and see if that fixes the issue.

any experience taking apart the column and replacing the switches or do you have to take the steering wheel off and replace the whole unit?

It will be the stalk - happened to me once in one of my cars in the past...

You do need to remove the steering wheel off and remove the plastic housing to access to the stalk - steering wheel has to be off to access to the screws..

Cheers
