I come to you guys for more help. I picked up a 97 impreza 2.2 and 4EAT. Well I bought the car not running. Igot it running and went to drive it around the block I get home and go to park it and it seems it doesnt have reverse. I went through the gears and in 1 nothing no movement but the rest of the forward drive gears work. Neutral it creeps forward and in reverse it feels like it wants to but its like something is binding. In park i revved it up and at about 2200 it started grinding so i shut it off. The fluid level is good and the fluid is clean. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Right off, it sounds like a misadjusted shifter cable.
Edit: I misinterpreted the description, thinking the noise in park was accompanied by car movement (noise coming from partially engaged parking pawl). Next poster is more likely correct. endedit.

Sounds like the reverse is gone in the trans. I've seen this before.
Make sure the pan is not dented in restricting fluid to the pump.
