inbae
Hi guys, I'm a longtime lurker but couldn't find an answer in the reg. threads. Recently I went to put my 2007 legacy in reverse by going all the way right and down (as should be done), however, I heard a popping sound and now i can no longer go directly into reverse vertically but can go in diagonally from the center neutral position. Has anyone had this problem or could point me in the right direction?
jmoss5723
It's probably toast. Better just buy a new car.

Gloyale
It's probably toast. Better just buy a new car. Kidding? I hope. Really this just sounds like a linkage issue to me. I would have the shift linkage inspected......If it still goes into reverse the trans is fine....just need to get whatever is jamming the shifter out. I recognized my brother-in-law's usual username, location, and problem we just looked at the other day. I thought I'd poke a little fun at him. Especially since he just bought this car! jmoss5723
We changed the tranny oil because it needed to be done anyway and we figured "Hey, maybe it'll help." Problem solved.
