Sweet82
I have a hitch on my 01 Forester, however I never hooked up the lights. I did a search and found where the pre-wired plug for the trailer lights is located. Thanks, USMB! Question: Do I need the $100 Subaru plug and box adapter to make everything work correctly or can I just make my own wires/adapter from the plug and not mess up the brake-light-out-sensor or some other parts. On all my other vehicles, I have always just wired up the lights and not worried about an adapter box. Is that still ok or will it mess up something? Thanks, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--now has a hitch but never will have a light adapter. 01 Forester--also has a hitch but wants to get lights hooked up. Tiny Clark
If you only have a two light system on the trailer (brake lights are the same as turn signals), and you have yellow turn signals on your vehicle, then you need the box. Howver, the box is available from most auto parts places, I think I bought my last one at Wallyworld. It's just a bunch of diodes keeping the brake voltage and turn signal voltage separated. They don't cost 100 bucks.
