  1. i swapped the return and vent line so far it hasnt drained out any gas.!!
  2. keep the ac lines from the 84 and lines from the donor.. at work we have ac line compression fittings that you can connect the lines with.. ill take a picture of one tomorrow at work and post it for you.. only problem i see is if the lines from each car are different diameters..
  3. ok thats a possibility but would it cause gas to leak out everytime it is ran or just everynow and then.. and also would it cause all the gas in the tank to pour out.
  4. ok got the separator out.. now cleaning it.. what would you reccomend cleaning it with
  5. i suppose that is what i will do. ill let you know if it changes anything. i have hanyes books and factory repair books.. but where is the fuel separator on a 86
  6. im not sure about vaccum lines. it possible... i dont know if it matters but the motor is a 93 ej 22.. also i have been running without a gas cap
  7. alright i have a 1986 subaru gl wagon. i have swapped a ej22 into it.. since the swap the car will piss gas out the canister at random points in time.. please help i will drain the whole tank and that gets costly.. anythoughts will help
  8. alright so i have myself an 86 gl wagon on my hands that i recently swapped and ej22 into from a 1993 legacy.. i have been driving it for a while and i have most of the problems worked out... knock on wood... anyway i am looking to clean up the wiring and get a couple things connected... i want to get the tach hooked up.. but looking at the cluster im not so sure where i would hook the wire from the ecu so some help there would be nice.. also there is an oil pressure gauge on the cluster and im not sure if i can hook anything to that but if i can i wouldnt mind doing it... also does anyone know if there is a conversion for the larger tires to know how fast you might be going.. any help on these things would be great.. thank much
  9. so what you are saying is i should just take the gas cap off but leave it on.. and drive it like that for a week or soo and that should fix it? and do you know why or how that fixes it.. its confusing to me..
  10. so since i finished the swap i have been driving the car just around town to make sure i have all the problems out of it.. well i found one.. i drove it today and when i came out of the store it was pouring gas out of the canister. the canister was full of gas. after i shut the car off the pressure slowly when down in the fuel rail and it stopped leaking out.. what could this be.. i know there are some solenoids that could be the cause.. what are your thoughts
  11. i had the black wire wired wrong so it wasnt going through the diode on the charge light.
  12. i recently did a ej 22 swap and have been helped with other problems. but as i work on it i find more small problems.. this one is kind of essential to driving.. the alternator isnt charging the battery.. so im pretty sure it is because of the wiring.. i havent hooked up the black wire to anything simply because im not sure where to hook it to.. i have a 1986 subaru gl wagon. i assume it needs to go to a charging light on the dash but there is no charging light i know of.. also i know with the light there is a diode so i dont think i can hook it up to any old light and have it work.. please help i want to drive this thing.
  13. i figured it out.. i never cut the old fuel pump out of the system.. so it was restricting flow.. i put a new line in completely cutting out the pump and now it runs and runs and i love ej swaps.. the car has power its great thanks much
  14. i checked for 12 volts to the fuel pump when it is running.. i have 11.7 volts. it stays at 11.7 volts until the car dies then it goes to zero..
  15. alright i swapped an ej 22 into an 1986 subaru gl wagon from a 1993 subaru legacy.. so i had spark problems.. i figured that out to be a stupid wiring problem.. not the car will run but.. it will only run for about 15 seconds or so.. i am thinking it is a fuel pressure problem.. there is a 1987 spfi fuel pump in it.. i can prime the system for 2 cycles of the key and it will start run for a little not long at all.. then just die.. anything you can think of will help like maybe which fuel pump to use and where to put it in the system.. right now it is mounted on the strut tower right off the ea fuel lines.. ???????:-\:-\:-\:-\:-\
  16. alright so i searched the forums today and found others with no spark on an ej 22 swap.. so i read them and someone suggested that the 12+ switched wire should be wired to the ignition wiring somewhere and i had it just to a 12+ volt switched wire.. so the coil got 12 volts but when you crank the computer would shut off because it was taking power away from that wire. so i wired it into the wire off the ignition switch and now i have spark.. so thankfully it was something easy to fix and not something expensive.. no i just have to get it to start.. possible fuel problems.. not sure i will look into it tomorrow.. thanks for the help and im sure ill be back for more if more problems arise...
  17. yes the ECU is working the fuel pump turns on when you key up the car. also i have signal from the ignitor at the coil and battery voltage. but still no spark.. i also put a 1996 coil in it and still it did not spark is it possible that when i crank it the power to the coil would drop out? also is it possible to put the computer from the 1996 into the 1993 just to totally rule out the computer?? also will it make a difference if the transmission is auto in the 1996 and manual on the 1993 for the computer switch?
  18. i have a 1986 subaru gl wagon that i am swapping and ej22 into from a 1993 subaru legacy. i have everything hooked up but i do not have any spark.i tested at the connector to the coil for battery voltage on the center wire its at 12 volts key on engine off and while cranking it will drop down to 9 volts i used a test light to check for signal to the coil on the two outside terminals when i did that the test light flashed while cranking. so i have everything i need to the coil but no spark. i ohmed out the coil and the primary is at .9 or 1.0 which is out of spec according to haynes manul. spec is .63-.77 ohms. so just in case i took a coil from a 1996 legacy with at 2.5 in it and plugged it in.. has the same connector. still no spark.. so im not sure if it could be a coil does a 1996 coil interchange with a 1993?? please help no sure what to do.?
  19. Diagnosing a vacuum leak on my ea82, found the bottom of this air control valve broken. Any ideas as to where could I find a suitable replacement, besides the boneyard? I've had no luck searching "air control vac valve" to find anything. Thanks
  20. Hey, newbie here,I've got a vacuum hose comng off of the airbox of my '86 EA82 carb. Can't tell for the life of me where it should go, dug thru the vac diagrams and the tech manual and can't trace it down. In the pics, it is the hose with the duct tape over the end. Thanks for any help, hoping this helps to take care of the egr light getting thrownhttp://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=19994&size=big&cat=500&ppuser=13671and http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=19993&size=big&cat=500&ppuser=13671 are the pictures.
