I have a 1987 GL 1.8 OHC w/TBI and CAS ignition.
Two weeks ago, it started dying suddenly - cold or hot - in town or hiway, no specific pattern. A successful re-start can take 45 seconds, or as long as 5-10 minutes - very unpredictable. What's interesting is that when the engine dies, the tach also dies. The problem is also becoming more frequent, dying 2 or 3 times in less than 5 miles. A friend pulled codes 11-13-14-24-33-34. Of those, code 11 says "crank angle sensor/circuit" and code 13 just says ""crank angle sensor". What's the differences between these nearly identical codes?
Wanting to be sure about the correct fix, I have a couple of questions:
1. Armed with a DMM (digital multimeter), how can I verify the CAS is defective?
2. IF the CAS is bad, what other years, models are *possibily* interchangable? I ask, because locating a 1987 crank angle sensor, has been unsuccessful so far.
