  1. Well I think I may have figured out my problem...The person who owned the vehicle before me, put some sort of jury rigged cold air induction system on the car and got rid of the factory one...I was checking that system, because there are numerous bolts and such plugging holes all around (???), I was checking the connection to the throttle body and the whole thing just came apart in my hand. I put everything back together and tightened it up and the car ran much better. I guess the car must have been sucking air through a leak somewhere and was bypassing the MAS...Could this have caused my problem?

OK today my problems just got worse, now my car will not stay running at all...I start it and it runs really rough for about 3 seconds and dies...The only way I can keep it running is if I give it gas...I checked all my plug wires but haven't checked the IAC, my Chiltons say's it's incorporated into the Throttle Body.
  3. Great thanks for all the reply's...I'll try it out when I get home from work...I just changed the plugs a few months ago so maybe I didn't get one on real good...I do not have a Check Engine light on.
  4. So far everyone here has given be very good advice, so I'm going to try again. I have a 95 Impreza that up until 3 days ago ran like a top! I was driving home from work the other day, went up an entrance ramp and slowed down to make a right turn and all the suddeen my car Died. I rolled over to the shoulder, thinking what the hell, it started up again and I went on my way. Now when the car idles in park or nuetral it runs OK, but when I try to go into gear or am waiting at a stoplight in gear it trys to die, unless I move to nuetral or park. This morning, now it even wants to die ide in park. On the highway it seems to run fine...Any ideas? Could it be bad gas, I got gas last time at a place I don't usually get gas from. Fuel filter? Any ideas would be much appreciated...Thanks again for any help.
  5. Thanks in adance for your help... I am a very novice mechanic but I'm sure I can figure this out...I have a 95 Suby Impreza that so far has been an outstanding car, but this morning (because it got kinda cold last night) that I don't have any heat in the car. If I turn the temp control knob to heat it only blows cold air, and of course the same thing happens if I turn the knob to the old side. The actually air temp doesn't seem to change no matter what I do. What should I look for first? Can the actual control be bad? Can my heater core be out? No idea where to start..any assistance would be grateful.
  6. Thanks alot for all the responses...OK one more question? If the timing belt has been changed recently, will I know it? Is it easily noticable when they are worn? If I get that far into it, should I just do it anyway?

I have a 95 Subaru Impreza with about 105K, not sure if the timing belt has ever been replaced but I want to do it either way...I was reading through my Chilton's manual and it doesn't LOOK to tough, but I know how things like this can go...I'm no mechanic, but pretty handing figuring things out...Any reason why I couldn't tackle this??

Thanks a lot for the recommendation, I recently purchased a chiltons' manual and it describes how to take off the instrument cluster (almost identical to your description)...Might save this for a rainy day, I'm not to concerned... I'm not sure exactly HOW it happend, it was like that when I bought the car. It looks like it has had several radios in and out, so I'm not sure if something might have shorted out...

I just purchased my 95 Suby this last week (95 Impreza) and I am noticing a shimmy and shake when I apply the breaks at speeds greater than 40MPH...If I'm just driving around town I don't notice, but at speeds greater than 50MPH I definitely notice this shaking...Any ideas I was told that the brakes were done about 8 months ago.
  10. I just purchased a 95 Impreza with 105K miles...I don't think the Trans fluid has ever been changed...Should I attempt? I've heard that if the Trans fluid hasn't been change by about 50K just leave it alone...Thoughts?
  11. I recently purchased a 95 Subaru Impreza with about 105K on it...I'm primarily using this as my work commuter car...With gas prices so high, it just made since. It's in really pretty good shape except for a couple issues. For one my instrument panel lights don't work. Well let me rephrase that, the lights that illuminate the Tach and Speedo do not work...I have check fuses and wiring but cannot find the problem. I noticed that there is a Illumi Control Module behind the radio..I'm thinking this may be the culprit or the switch may be bad on the steering column...Any ideas...Thanks in advance.
