  1. So my son decided to tackle swapping out the blown auto tranny on our Forester with a junkyard pull and is having an issue getting the new tranny installed. He says it wont slip all the way up into place to bolt back on. Did he overlook something pulling out the old tranny or is there a trick to getting it back in place ?
  2. I sorta am going through the same thing. Both my fans went out too (or one then the other). I took it to a shop and they said direct power should make them run but mine didn't. They also checked the relays and wiring and said they were good. I had them replace with 2 used fans and here's the problem now: Both fans come on when the a/c button is pushed only (no fan if a/c is off) but the compressor doesn't click or come on. A/C worked fine before the shop looked at it. What could this be ? Wiring issue ? Any help is appreciated !
  3. I'm in San Antonio, So would I need to take it somewhere else and have the speedo hooked up ? Seems to shift fine, just no speedo/odometer.
  4. Who knows, I think he was talking about the Impreza trannie, something about it fitting a Nissan 240. The trannie they put in was the same as mine (I bought it), just something about the speedo setup being different. I may take it to another shop and see if they can fix it. It seemed easy to me, take one trannie out put the same trannie in.
  5. That's what I thought too. He mentioned that it was the same trannie as a Nissan and that they could splice a early 90's 4x4 Pathfinder harness into the ABS system wheel speed sensors (they did it before on an Impreza). Could they have broke something in the swap ? It shifts fine, just no speedo or odometer.
  6. I just got the auto transmission in my 1994 Legacy AWD swapped out with a Japanese imported one (was going to do it myself but no time). When I got it back from a local transmision shop there's an issue with the speedometer/odometer not working. The mechanic said that the one he put in is "older" than a 94 and doesn't have the proper wiring to rig up to the computer. Is this a common problem on swapping Legacy transmissions or is he blowing smoke somewhere ? He mentioned rewiring to the ABS system wheel sensors. Any possible fixes, suggestions or advice on this would be helpful. Thanks !
  7. The transmission's appear to be the same, both 1994 AWD units. I thought in looking into past postings there was an issue about replacing a clip or ring off the driveshaft ?? I'm in Lakehills, around San Antonio. This is my third Subaru but they were both manuals.
  8. I have a 1994 Legacy wagon and I am about to put in a Japanese import automatic transmission (got 204K out of the original !). I've got the transmission being shipped and need to know what else I need to get in way of parts to do the trannie swap (gasket kits,etc.). Also any advice/helpful hints would be greatly appreciated since this is my first auto swap. Thanks !
