  1. I just finished changing all the fluids and all the filters on my '97 OBL and my wife's Honda. Wouldn't you know it. I've got a washer in my pocket, can't remember where it came from. I think it's from the Subaru. About 7/8" outside diameter, a little over 1/2" inside. Does the transmission drain plug have a washer on it? Any other ideas?
  2. I'm sorry, I totally misunderstood, I'm new at this! Are the two products you mention easy to find?
  3. Well, there it is again! One person says DEFINITELY to use synthetic, the other person says DEFINITELY do not. Which is correct?
  4. I appreciate the answers I had to my question the other day about what type of maintenance I should be doing on my 1997 Legacy Outback, 2.5 engine, manual transmission. I've been working on it on and off for the past few days, I'd like to change the transmission & differential oils tomorrow. I've been reading A LOT of old posts (it's kind of addictive!) and I'm a bit confused about the type of oil to use in the transmission and differential. 1. Is it ok to just simply use the same oil in both? If so, what is a reasonably-priced, readily-available in most stores oil that I could use? I'm not going to do this every week, so I'm certainly willing to pay the price for synthetic if that is what should be used. 2. A poster from last week asserted that manual transmissions are better with regular gear oil than synthetic, something about screwing up the "synchro" (sorry, not sure what that means!)Again, it's not the money, I want to use the correct product. 3. I bought a plastic funnel with a long plastic tube attached. Will I need any other specialized equipment/tools?
  5. Lauren- If that offer is still open: 4S3BG68SXV6637361. The tag also says that it is model BGCY4F and the option code is U10W. Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the answers to my paint question last night, I didn't know that a site like this existed, this is great! I have a 1997 Legacy Outback, just turned 100k miles. I've tried to maintain it as best I can, other than a fair collection of dings and scratches on the paint and some interior wear & tear, it runs well. Just put four very expensive Michelin tires on it! I had to have the head gasket replaced at 75k miles, and at that time they also replaced the timing belt. Anyway, I'd like increase the amount of preventive/necessary maintenance on it that I do myself (I've never had a car go over 200k miles, I don't see why this one can't.) I am handy with tools, more home repair than cars, but am willing to tackle anything that in the opinion of the more experienced experts on this board a DYI'er can safely accomplish. My Question: Can I get a pretty complete list of things to do/replace/check/etc. that an amateur like me could handle? If this has already been addressed in another post, a link to that post would be fine. Thanks again!
  7. I have a 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback. I'd like to touch-up paint the front bumper, but can't find any info on the paint color or where to get it. The color is "silver" (don't know what Subaru calls it.) Thanks!
