  1. Nope on the sock filter... How would an individual go about that? I read on some models you can pop the back seat, remove an access cover, & get to the sending unit. Would the sock filter be there, or did I just fall for the "check the muffler belt" routine? thanks for your help guys. jerry
  2. The fuel pump is on the outside of the tank. Good thought though. Theoretically, I could disconnect the fuel line before the pump & take a sample from their, or siphon some out I spose...
  3. Grrrrr. I was just about finished typing this in & I accidently hit the clear button on the keyboard. Poof gone.... ANYWHO, I have a retired master mech friend who agrees with the gunk / water in the tank theory. I threw a can of Heat in the last tank to see if that helps, Any other suggestions on Brand? I toyed with pulling the tank & flushing it out till I read manual & figgered it was kinduva job... No on the vapor lock. Not when I refill the tank anyway. Old pump is gone, But It may be worth a trip to pull n save again to try & rule it out. Could the fuel pressure reg. be causing this???
  4. 91 loyal FI With less than 1/2 tank of gas, it likes to stall out at stop signs, or surge ahead after almost stalling. Fill the tank & it runs great till you get to about 1/4 tank & starts the process over again. No cel. I replaced the pump with a pull n save pump when we first bought it about 2 months ago due to the little rubber tip on the end being gone & spraying fuel everywhere. Then this starts shortly after. I browsed some sites last night looking for fuel pumps & they had a note in the description saying alot of fuel pump issues are actually fuel pressure regulaters issues. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.
  5. Crap... it runs better with them plugged in.... I gotta find a mechanic who knows how to work on this thing or part it out. Problem is the engine seems to be in good shape except for the stalling. I'll do a search again on stalling & see what I can come up with. THanks for your help. Jerry
  6. 91 Loyal, by the fuel filter in the engine compartment there are 2 plugs that aren't plugged to anything. 1 yellow, 1 black. Diag plugs? Clumped with them are also 2 other single wire plugs. one has a green connector & the other one white. I was out tinkering last night & noticed they were both unplugged from their prospective mates. The white went to white & the green to a green mate. I plugged them in & My Stalling problem seeeeemed to go away, but now the check engine light is flashing again... Are the wires supposed to be plugged in or not???
  7. The last time it did this we figgered the gas gauge was wrong & topped tank off & it stopped. Now with the gauge showing 1/2 tank it's started again. It also doesn't like to start. Now a little history... Shortly after we got it I had to replace the fuel pump, because fuel was spurting out the little rubber nipple on the end of pump. Pull n save... After the stalling started I replaced the fuel filter also. When I pulled the hose off the output side the gas was clear. When I pulled it off the input side it was very orange. I didn't notice this when I did the fuel pump tho... I'm going to pull the filter hose again tomorrow & see what gas looks like. If it's orange I'm going to pull a hose at the pump & check it their also. I'm ASSSSSSUUmming the tank is rusty??? What kind if a job is it to replace a tank. THanks for your help guys. Jerry
  8. We just bought a 91 Loyale wagon & the ac isn't blowing cold. I haven't checked around yet, but I assssume with the r-12, it can't be recharged?.??? What kind of a deal is it to switch it over to the newer style, (R134?)??
  9. First timer here. We just bought a 1991 Loyal wagon. The wife pulled into the driveway this afternoon & As she sat there idling I noticed gas dripping under the rear door. I pulled the fuel pump assy. down & turned the key & fuel was coming out the end of the pump. It looks like their should be a tiny little rubber nipple on the end of it. Is the pump bad? Any suggestioins? THanks in advance. jerry
