  1. 0.20 mm intake 0.25mm exhaust you can check the clearance by putting cam in place hold it down and meshure clearance the cam do's not need to be bolted down just held down it will take some time and trial and error but at least you know to check it will save mutch greif i mark them all ps or dsin 1 exds1 like that and use a egg carton to keep them seperated always back where they came from but still meshure them and i find lots that aren't right even from factory u can addjust the clearance by takeing a slight bitt off the end of valve with valve grinder takes time pacenice

    Thanks for the tip!

  2. So buddy of mine with a 99 Leggy GT called me this evening with an emergency, tranny was literally pouring out of the tranny!

He left a puddle in his driveway, a trail of ATF out of his cul-de-sac then another puddle while waiting to turn around to limp it back home. Gut feel is he lost 1 - 2 qts during this episode.

He says that the front diff dipstick was blown loose and ATF was blowing out of there.

My first thought is could it be a vent tube in that area? And the diff dipstick was just loose from a previous check?

But what is the worst case? Could any seal between the tranny and front diff be blown such that ATF is pushed into the front diff?

    He sent me this picture:

  3. Previous owner claimed to have the headgasket replaced by a "friend", he left the headgasket kit packaging in the car. Anticipating a botched HG job I did a combustion gas test of the cooling system, stuck the gauge in the expansion bottle, pumped and the test fluid remained blue.

Forgot to mention that the ATF levels have been dropping during two short (<5 miles) drives I had done since purchasing the car :-\

Will check both ATF and oil again for signs of moisture

That being said, if it is indeed a botched HG job I'm not even going to wongleflute around with in, will just shoehorn a used EJ22 from a 95 into it

  4. I searched but could not find a definitive answer.

The car in question is a 1999 Impreza OBS MT with a seized motor due to previous owner driving with oil filter fallen off after a quick lube job.

So I'm pondering, in the interest of getting this car back on the road with last $$ spent, can a donor Phase 1 motor (long block, intake, injectors, etc.) be a direct swap for a 99 OBS (originally phase 2)?

Is the wiring harness and ECU off the phase 1 motor required?

    Thanks :)
