  1. It´s supposed to be M a t s u sh i t a, as in it´s trying to censor s h i t.
  2. Thanks for the offer, but I did infact find an oil cooler out of a 87 coupe on the webpages for a junkyard locally so I´ll be ordering that one
  3. I think the car needs to be lowered slightly both front and rear as well as evened out. My plan is to lower the car when I do the 5 lug swap and install new suspension. Trying to find out if I can use ground control coilovers with yellow konis since I´ve been very happy with that setup on another car. The rest of the RX kit seems to be very rare here in Norway if it even exists at all. There is a small plastic part right on front of the rear wheels but it´s missing on the driver side which is the side visible in the pics. I would be very interested in the rest of the RX bodykit if someone´s selling it
  4. Yes, those are headlight washers. Quite common on cars sold in the Scandinavian countries. I´ve also noticed that whatever brand of car americans are always jealous of our headlight washers Not many of these older subarus left here anymore. Mostly a few sedans and wagons and pretty much no coupes left. Those hub caps came stock on all EA82 Subarus from 87 or 88, not quite sure what year. Know for sure that 86 had different hub caps. I have noticed the different ride height front to back myself. Is this a common problem or is it supposed to be like this ? Could something be wrong with my rear suspension ? Thanks, surprisingly clean for such an old car, especially with 240 000km on it (150 000miles).
  5. Thanks for the link, something like that could be useful. Too bad he only ships to the US. Pics of the car here : http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=824388
  6. Picked up this 88 3 door with an EA82T engine not too long ago. Initially I was thinking to use it as a cheap daily driver, but after doing a lot of reading here on the forum and seeing the possibilities I´m thinking of doing a 5 lug swap first and an engine/tranny swap with a JDM GC8 STi later. Car is bone stock except for the, quite modest, sound system and a boost gauge I added. As of now I have done a complete tune up and replaced all the coolant hoses, next comes replacing the timing belts and oil pump because of some horrible ticking at times. Does anyone know if there´s any difference between the oil pumps for EA82 and EA82T engines, or indeed between the different body styles ? BTW, this car is located in Norway so I assume you´ll see some subtle differences here and there. Enough talk, here´s some pics
  7. I plan on replacing the oil pump when I do the timing belts soon because of a pretty bad ticking sometimes. Is there any seals I can replace while i change the pump and belts ? Heater and ventilation controls work just fine, however my car does not have AC but perhaps the car from which the motor came had AC ? My car have the locking center differential and it works like it should. The two solenoids you mention are there and the vacuum lines connected to them are fine. I replaced absolutely all the coolant hoses, including the little ones on the throttle body/intake and the heater hoses. I know the little ones eventually will get me since they did on my 86 sedan I have actually washed my engine bay several times, but only from the top, so the underside of the engine is still pretty dirty. There is no check engine light right now, but there´s two codes stored, 11 and 31. Which is TPS and CAS if I remember correctly. The check engine light did light up very briefly (like less than a second) while accelerating in 2nd gear at 5500 rpm or so one of the first days I owned the car, but not seen it after that.
  8. That metal line in the bottom left goes to the intake pipe directly to the filter box. The reason it´s unplugged is because I was working on the engine. Don´t know if I was clear enough about it, but I replaced all the coolant hoses yesterday since I know they eventually leak all of them
  9. Well, my old 86 sedan finally succumbed to rust and various problems so I sent it to the scrapyard. At the same time a 88 turbo coupe popped up for sale just across the road. After checking it out it had several small problems: -Brakes didn´t work well, unable to lock the wheels even if it´s wet outside -Power mirrors didn´t work -Passenger side power window didn´t work -4 CV boots were bad -Pulled slightly to the right Other than that it seemed ok, and most important it didn´t have a lot of rust. Negotiated it down to 2/3 of what seller wanted at first. The first thing I did was giving it a complete tune up with oil and filter, plugs, rotor, cap, air filter, plug wires and adjusted the timing. Bleeding the brakes fixed that problem, power mirrors just needed a new fuse, power window seems to need a new motor, replaced the CV boots and putting on the summer tires instead of the well worn winter tires fixed the pulling to the right problem. Day after i bought it the water hose beneath the turbo cracked, quite a pain to replace that. Then the other day the hose from hell developed a leak. Yesterday I went ahead and replaced every hose on the whole engine, tires of all these leaks popping up all the time. While working on the engine I have noticed few things that I need help in identifying, so I hope someone might help me out. Bear in mind this is a european model, so I guess some things might be different. Also the engine in this car has been replaced with a similar one, which might be why there are some things that seem to be unneeded. First is this thing which I assume is a solenoid for controlling something. It´s plugged in electrically, but the vacuum hoses are not connected to anything: Then there´s a spare vacuum connection that´s plugged near the coil: Some unused electrical connections near the firewall, both sides of the car: Finally my oil pump has two banjo connections that are just looped with a hose. I assumes this is for a oil cooler ? The piece with the connections just seems to be a sandwich adapter between the oil pump and the filter. Is this something from the factory or is it aftermarket ? : I will try to get some pictures of the car later if anyone is interested
  10. I finally got around to check out my shifter problem today. Yanked the shifter really hard into 2nd gear with the engine off, and it worked Was a little hard to get it out of gear again , but after driving the car a few hundred meters it works just like before , probably something was jammed ? Also checked the transmission oil level , and it seemed to be way over the max level (like half of the distance between min - max over the max mark). How bad is it if there´s too much oil in the transmission ?
  11. It´s the same with the engine off , tried that as well. Is there any chance that replacing the tranny fluid would fix this ? I need to replace the inner CV joint boot on the right side front , so that means I´ll have to change the fluid at the same time. Also , what tranny fluid does these cars use ? I´m gonna check the linkage from the top when I get back home this weekend. Actually it isn´t too bad driving without the 2nd gear , but I think snow driving will be much more fun with a working 2nd gear
  12. I just bought myself a 86 1.8 GL 4wd to use as a winter car, my lowered Honda isn´t really the best for driving in snow , good snowplough though . Also I think 4wd will be much more fun as winter is approaching here in Norway. Some pics of my new car : Gotta love that big boot : When I picked up the car there was no problems with it , however just before I got it home I stopped for some gas and suddendly 2nd gear would not engage. Prior to that I had been driving some 70 km´s (about 40 miles) in 4-5th gear and there were no strange noises of any sort. If I try to engage 2nd gear I can feel it´s not getting as far into gear as it should , and when I release the clutch it pops back into neutral , if I forcibly hold the stick in position it will grind. I crawled under the car while someone was shifting gears and I could see that the shift linkage was not moving as far into 2nd gear as it did into 4th gear , not much , maybe 3-4 mm. Is it likely that this is caused by sloppy shift linkage or is it something inside the tranny ? Anyone have any suggestions on where I should start with this ? Edit : My car has a manual transmission without the hi-lo range selector and 4wd switch on top of the stick.
