  1. Had an older actron that served me for years. It could only read a code, and clear it. I am looking for thoughts on a new one. Do anybody have any advice as to which scanner to buy. I don't want to spend a fortune but would like a little more capability. Maybe just a cord and software to use with my Iphone??
  2. Did a whole bunch of searches on here when I started drain and fills and thought the opinions were that even the cheap fluids were good to go. But maybe your right, cause the cold slip never occurred before I added the cheap fluids. Also if my memory serves, the manual recommends any DexIII fluid. Thanks much for the tips and don't mean to hijack the OP's thread.
  3. My 05 OBW acts a little funny til it warms up as well. Then its fine. I have been draining and adding fluid for some time. I am certainly going to drive it until it fails. Absolutely no need to do anything now, it doesn't cause me any problems at all. Drive it easy for the first few miles, then your good to go. YMMV
  4. this problem for me is just on the highway, where I am trying to go straight and am being buffeted by the wind. If there is no breeze at all, its fine, but thats rare around here.
  5. complaint filed, thanks for that link. And dampers are my next step. Tires are in good shape and not that old. Although I haven't messed with the pressure, that is also something I will play with, thanks for the suggestions
  6. thanks for that info. Car is actually great in the slippery stuff. Its this behavior with the wind that is driving me nuts. Car is just easily blown around by mild winds. My 1996 OBW was never like this so you could be right about geometry. Thanks
  7. Love this car except for this, when its windy, or even just breezy and I am driving down the highway, the car is hard to keep straight. Not like I am out of control or anything, just can't sit there and relax as it always needs input to the steering wheel. As listed its an 05 Outback Wagon with 90k on the clock. Good tires, I think Good Year assurance. Thanks for any help.
  8. what kind of pizza are we talking?? Seriously, don't know if I can drive it that far, as it sounds like your close to two hours from me. My bud drove the car everyday to work, but it used antifreeze pretty regular. I do have access to a car hauler that I can tow with my truck, but would have to get enough to cover the gas over the hundred for the car. Oh, and of course the pizza!
  9. I have a 97 OBW with 2.5 with a head gasket issue, big surprise there. It is an automatic. It was given to me by a friend, runs, inspected, but used antifreeze and idles rough. I am taking the AC system, the headlights and grill, driving lights, maybe the heated seats, and maybe the windshield as it is new. The car has all new O2 sensors, tires, cv shafts up front. First hundred bucks takes the car after I have my parts, but you must get the car out of my yard asap. Email me at glmf@adelphia.net thanks Marc
  10. changing the half shaft really is pretty easy, just DON'T break the pinch bolt on the ball joint like I did. And if you do break it, DON'T try an easy out to get it out like I did. Seperate the ball joint with a splitter which will most likely ruin the boot. Its only about thirty bucks for Moog ball joint. Pull the whole steering knuckle out, put it in your vise and drill the broken bolt out, then thru bolt it, just like has already been done on the used part I bought,,,,,,,,,,really, the half shaft is an easy job. And one other thing, start hosing everything with penetrant, a good one like Kroil about two weeks to a month before you do the job. glmf out
  11. ditto on the wire ties or zip ties as some people call them, I started doing this on my atvs to allow for greasing and it works very well. Just a quality tie wrap, like one with a metal locking tab,,,
  12. cv joint is gone and was pulling stub shaft when problems started. The pinch bolt on the lower(only) ball joint was rusted in place and spun the socket on the head. Then broke an easy out in it, then cracked the hub where the pinch bolt goes thru with a cold chisel. So I need a new hub, or better a used good one, any ideas where I can find one. The car is a 96 AWD outback, 2.2 with the five speed, has been an absolutely great car. Never even had a stuck bolt which suprised me, hence my heavy handedness with this bolt,,,,,thanks
