I have a 91 Legacy FWD. Are the accesories powered directly from the ignition switch or via a relay. If it is by a relay, where does this relay reside. Thanks Ian

It isn't a good idea to do as Tiny suggest's the battery helps smooth the spikes that alternators can generate so you can zap things like the engine management system doing this.

Have you checked to see if you have any stored fault codes from the ECU? Mine also hesitates, I believe it is caused by the ECU overreacting to the air con compressor cutting in.

Well I have now done over 2000kms with the 100 ohm resistor in parallel with the solenoid and have had no more CEL alarms. I am convinced there is nothing wrong with the solenoid, every time the CEL came on I pulled it out and hooked it up to 12 volts and it worked perfectly so I think my mod is justified, in other words I'm just stopping a false alarm rather than masking a fault.

Well I have cleaned the thing FWIW. I'm really puzzled as to why the ECU says its faulty, when the checks say it aint. How is the ECU reaching a conclusion its faulty? I can only think that the coil is intermittent, CEL certainly is. Hence my resistor "fix". Ian

True it may be sticking Josh but how would the ECU know this? Surely it just looks for the prescence of the correct resisitance of the coil or not. That is the ECU's only contact with the solenoid. Ian

I have had the CEL come up for this solenoid. I checked it according to Haynes manual and it is in spec. I hooked up 12v and it works. So I'm thinking why don't I place a 100 ohm resistor in parallel with it then the ECU will think it is OK whether it is or isn't. What do others think?

The Haynes manual says anaerobic sealant for the oil pump, are there any specific recommendations eg Loctite ###

Now I've done a search and there is lots of info bleeding the coolant, blending the coolant using demin water etc. But what is the best way of flushing the old coolant out so you can start from fresh with a drained engine. I have a man EJ22. Thanks

AHA, found it it was near the transmission tunnel with the yellow diagnostic plug. I think my troubles have just started I have 35, 11 and 12 flashing. I've reset the ECU so I'll see what remains. Thanks Ian:(

My 91 Liberty (Aussie Legacy) is showing the Check engine light sometimes shortly after starting. I decided to read the ECU, was able to find the green plug but not the black plug. Are these in a different spot in the Australian cars. Ian

I am using Kumho for the first time after a lot of good wraps from various sources. I must say I'm not disappointed, they are quiet, comfortable and have good adhesion wet n dry, not enough k's yet to judge wear though. This on a 91 Legacy FWD.

IMHO you can't go past Iridiums for any engine. Great technology coupled with long life which is good news for alloy heads. My EJ22 certainly likes them.
