  2. Hello - I'm a new member of the Subaru board - hello to everybody! I purchased the car new and since it was new I noticed and complained to my dealer and the factory rep of a "burning oil" smell. Not coming from the exhuast - but rather radiating? from the car......to me it smelled like an oil leak dripping onto the exhaust - however there is no evidence of a leak???? Over time I've checked and changed the car's fluids....... Now that the car has 89,000 miles The interesting thing I've found is that on occasion - the transmission fluid disappears!!!! Yes - that's right - I'll check the dipstick and the fluid will be gone from the trans!!!! No visable signs of any leaks..... I've since just changed and added fluid as needed.......however, now the car's trans definatley seems to be feeling the effects.....It shifts alittle tougher (especially when cold) and it makes some a strange noise (a shken sound) when running up through the rpm band (from about 3,500 to 5,500). Anybody have any thoughts of what's going on? Is this a problem that the factory knows about? I thought I remember reading something way back in 2000 about a trans fluid problem........ Please let me know - jlipper@ptd.net
