  1. Yeah. Mine bubbles from cold. Ran great before that. That whole dash thing sucks though. I can do it, no prob - It's just dang cold around here which isn't so good for motivation. I did do a little searching, so I'm aware of some things. I wasn't sure about the dash, but I guess it's gotta come out. What a PITA. Oh well. Thanks for the info.
  2. What was the cause of the bubble's?? Mine will run all the way up to the red, then comes back down and is fine. If I open the cap before starting, it does good and won't over heat until the second or third time I drive it from cold. It takes that long to build the pressure up in the system and prevent the water from getting to the t-stat to pop it. It's very small bubbles. Anyway... How hard is it swap in an MPFI motor??
  3. It started to run hot, I assume from pushing air into the cooling system (air bubbles popping up) due to cracked head or head gasket. I replaced the T-stat and cap anyway. Water pump looks good. Still it's pushing air bubbles to the radiator. The shop is a well known shop around here specializing in Roos, and I've never heard a bad word about them from other people that I've talked too. I like to do my own work usually, and so I'm pretty picky about the shops I go to when needed. My dads TR-6 was taking up the garage at the time with a clutch job, so I couldn't do the heads myself. I suspect they are probably cracked now since it did overheat. Maybe I'll just sell it? I don't know... It's a great car otherwise. No TOD, nice tires and no rust. It really cheeses my nachos that this happened.
  4. My worry is that the heads have been milled too many times, and now the compression ratio is too high. Also, the head might be cracked, and then I'll need a new head. The XT engine is free - did I mention that? Unless of course someone just wants to buy the wagon and XT from me so I can get a truck. We are trying to buy a house in one of the most inflated markets in the country, so there's no money, but a truck would be great. Thanks for the info on the XT's harness. I'll have to give it a look-see when the weather gets above freezing
  5. Hi All, I have a 93 loyale wagon 5sp s/r 4x4 SPFI that I want to swap in an MPFI motor from an 80 something (later I guess) xt 2wd car. The story - I bought this wagon from some friends that were getting rid of it almost a year and a half ago. They had the head gaskets done not long before selling it to me and my wife. About 6 months later, the head gasket went again. I had it fixed at a shop (same one that did it before) since at the time I had no place to work on it myself. That was year ago, and now the dang thing has blown it again. I don't want to do another head gasket job since I don't know what the deal is with this thing. The good news is that my cousin who lives next door has this XT that has been sitting forever (over 5 years I guess by now) but had new heads and gaskets and some other things installed before he just lost interest in it. He said I could have whatever I wanted from it, so I guess I want the motor :-) I know that you need the wiring harness and ECU, and that the fender needs to come off to get the harness out, but what else is difficult about this job? Do I need to seperate wires or pull apart the harness? Does the dash need to come out? My dad and I are pretty handy with cars and have done similar jobs before. Anything to watch out for with this one? I just wanted to hear from someone that had done the same thing and had a little more specific experience. Thanks!!
  6. Well, It's not that I think a brat would be any better, but I like the body style better, and would therefore be more inclined to fix it instead of sell it. Weird thing though. Right after I posted this, the wife and I got in the roo to go to town, and it was loud as usual. We stopped at a place for about a half hour, get back in and crank it up, and dang - It's quiet as a mouse (or at least a mouse driving around in a EA82). I don't know - I guess I'm going to MMO it and see if that keeps it quiet for good.
  7. Hi all, I have a 93 Loyale Wagon that recently had the HG's replaced. It had the TOD before the HG replacement, and when I got it back it still had it, but less frequently. Then about a month later, it came back with a vengance. It sounds very bad. It's to the point where I'm not even sure that it's the TOD anymore, but I swear I hear the valvetrain all the time except for maybe after 4k rpm's. My worry and my question is that last night I was driving around town so the engine was nice and warm, and I was sitting idling when I saw the oil light start flashing on. Uh oh. It has plenty of oil (it's actually over full a bit). So will that oil pump gasket make the oil pressure so low that the light will come on, or do I need to sell the loyale? I guess it could be a good excuse to look for a brat. Thanks, Derrick
  8. Duhh... I guess if I would read better, it would help. Sometimes I type faster than I read It still sounds like fuel starvation though. Could be the pump is going bad. You can't really tell how much pressure you have without testing it. An easy way is to run the fuel supply hose into a tank of know capacity and time it. That will tell you how many gallons per hour you are moving at least, if not pressure. Also, I like the idea of checking the exhaust. Maybe it's pinched? Clogged cat? Good luck, Derrick
  9. It sounds to me like a fuel filter problem. Gets enough to run at certain speeds, but when you ask for more, it starves out. I had a Toyota truck that did the exact same thing. Replacing the fuel filter fixed it right up. Good luck, Derrick
  10. Hey thanks for the welcome. Yeah I've seen Mr Fox's name a few times on here already as I've been searching Those websites seem great too, I've got them bookmarked under my new subaru links that I've added so far. Also, an update for anyone searching on speedo problems in the future. I was able to fix the speedo last night by plugging the cable back into the instrument cluster. It was just hanging out there. It's really hard to see the receptor for the speedo cable when you're on your back in the foot well. I had to press my head all the way into the accelerator and wedge my ear under the brake pedal to see it. Once you can see it, the cable is stiff enough that you can just guide it up there - because your NOT going to get your hand in to it. So now I'm accumulating miles again, and I've discovered that I was going about 10 mph slower than I thought I was LOL! Thanks all!
  11. Hi guys and gals, Just wanted to introduce myself to eveyone. I'm sure I'll be asking plenty of questions in the days to come. My name's Derrick, my wife and I just picked up a 1993 Loyale wagon with the 4WD pushbutton and 5-speed. It's pretty much rust free and runs pretty well. I think the clutch is going to need to be replaced in the near future, and the speedometer isn't working. I already did a bit of searching for speedo problems on this forum and so I have some things to look at now. I'm not sure if I'll take it to a shop to do the clutch or not. Depends on how hard it is, and what's going on with my other cars at the time. I love the thing so far. It's got around 132k miles on it (the speedo broke right when I bought it) It's burgandy color, with the ugly "spokey" looking hubcaps. We live in Western NC and I was thinking it would be a good camping car. We'll see. Anyway - keep the shiny side up
