If this is an auto then you're set just get your fingers under the silver trim around the PRNDL thing. it works best when you lift straight up at the back edge. It will pop right up with a good tug. These new cars are like LEGOs the are held together with plastic clips.

Also, you should be filling to the hole not the notch in the stick. Make sure you let it sit for a minute before checking. It takes a while for the oil to drain from such a flat motor.

There are two different oil pans. the square bottom one (4.75Qts) and the round bottom one(4.25Qts). The DOHC 2.5l engines all have the square one to my knowledge. The round ones are on 2.5 SOHC and late model 2.2l (95-on) 2.2l prior to 95 had both of them and I haven't figured out the rhyme or reason to that one yet.

Many many forester hill holders came adjusted too tightly from the factory. It sounds to me like this one may be a bit too tight. for proper adjustment find yourself a small incline and pull part way up it. push in clutch and brake. Let off brake and slowly release clutch. The vehicle should start ot roll back just as the clutch is entering the friction zone. when properly adjusted the clutch friction should take over just as the hill-holder lets go. If it is your first time adjusting may take a while just take the wrenches with you when you go on a test drive for fine tuning.

I can tell you the 3.0 is bullet proof. I have seen many come through the doors with over 100k and no problems (not even oil leaks!!) The cam tensioner is a problem confined to only the very earliest production of the sixes. There should be no problem with a new 05'

Hey check with the dealer there was a recall on the cam sensors of that vintage 2.2l motors. the real test is a bad sensor usually makes it hard to start after a hot soak such as coming out of the store and trying to start it.

All of this seems to relate to the EA82 OHC motor. Is it possible for them to grind the cam for the EA81? If so how would you accomplish the shimming part since the cam is inside the block?

No way don't give up the Brat. they are worth way more than a wagon. Plus last I saw there were a couple of good cars over at Pull and Save in Spokane. If you go there let me know I might be able to sneak over there and give you a hand. I have a wagon that I think I want to put the EJ22 swap into but a brat sure would be nice:brow:
