FOUND!! and in not bad shape either. They busted a light up front, probably 50cents at PAP. $150 to get it out of impound. It had an electric lawnmower in it, a gas can, some CDs, and other obviously stolen goods. the stereo was ripped out (it was a nice one too...) but otherwise not too bad. I haven't gone through it compltely, but i didn't see any needles or anythign. some beer bottles, that was a bout it. It was found in the rainer valley (of course). Anyways, THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU for looking out and helping. What a great group us soob owners are. Thanks again,,

Just wanted to thank you all.... we haven't located the hippie wagon, but we're still hoping we find her in drivable condition. I appreciate the attention/sticky, etc.

Hey everyone. Its been a long time since I've been around (ahhh... life) but my wife's 88 wagon (can't recall DL or GL) with multiple stickers (mostly of the hippie variety) light blue in color was stolen from Cherry street near Swedish hospital (providence or Cherry hill campus) today. Lame, it wasn't worth what it costs to licence it, but it was good reliable transportation and some a hole stole it. Anyways, if you see it around town, shoot me an email or a PM. Thanks so much...

Hi guys, long time no posts....
I was just replacing the accessory belts on my 93 leg wagon last night, and knowing that my timing belt has about 65K on, I pulled to covers to take a look at it. It looks perfect. Am I missing something here? It looks friggin brand new. So then I call Subaru, to verify that the interval is 60K on the 2.2s and they agree. Should I be replacing it soon anyway? It looks perfect!

This poor 1600 was 9.4 miles from 300000 when it got hit.
I felt kinda bad for the poor fella.
You should have tied a rope to it and dragged the 9 miles. You owe it to that poor little soob.

Still have a 77 beetle, mostly stock. Will probably end up selling the 84 gl wagon to make room for the beetle which is still in my parents garage under a car cover.

All subarus leak oil. Its one of those things we love about them!
Really though, the seals that leak the most frequently are the Valve cover gaskets, oil pan, and front and rear mains. the front and rear mains can be a pain to replace, but the others are pretty easy (I've been told).

I thought the radiator ground wire was to prevent corrosion in the radiator, ie, not letting an electircal charge build up in/on/around the radiator that can cause corrosion (like the type you see around battery terminals...)

A bad fuel pump wouldn't account for the horrible gas milage. I'm with those that think its a timing belt, or something in the ignition system. You know the engine is getting fuel, or the mileage wouldn't be so bad. Its either not getting air, or there is nothing there to burn it. The "roughness" is likely because one or more cylinders are not firing when they should, creating an "imbalance".

What went wrong with these trannies I wonder. My 4EAT has been a fine transmission in my 92 legacy with 250 000 km - perhaps it had been replaced at some point, but I doubt it. It needs to warm a bit on the highway before the overdrive kicks in, but other than that, shifts nice considering the age.
My OD does the same thing... but mine shifts kind of hard sometimes.

sorry to dredge up an old thread, but thats what happens when I use the search function...
I need a gasket, as I'm going to replace my windshield. I'm guessing that using the old one is out.... call me crazy? Besides, I think my current one leaks anyway, as there's always moisture on the floorboards (not rusted at all). So does anyone have a CONFIRMED source for these? Thanks,

I don't know, I have never worked with a Subaru dealer, so my "experience" is only what I have heard on this site and from other subaru owners. From everything that I have heard, I won't be buying a new subaru -until- I know what life expectancy of the latest gen 2.5s is like, -and- I won't be buy an automatic - ever. I have the 4EAT in my 93 leg wagon and its a total peice of $hit. No one here has ever had anything great to say about the 4EATs. It may also be worth mentioning that all the JY ones not only have a bad tranny, but usually a bad engine too, leading me to believe (and a quick search here will verify) that the 4EATs not only destroy themselves, but they usually take the engine with them. I love my legacy, but I'd really like the 5MT swap, or to put a D/R from a EA82 into it. BTW, I searched for that specific conversion, and didn't find anything - any one know if there has been some sucess with this?
I see a definite distinction between the EA71/81/82 gen subes and the legacy/OBW gen subes. Subaru was started by building equipment for the military - it was simple, tough, and as reliable as the sun rising. But when the focus had to shift toward pleasing a consumer market (as it does today) things just went south - there was no way the company could maintain viability by building simple little EA81 engines forever. Sure, we would love it, but its too much of a niche market. They had to change, and today I don't think of them as being any different than any other car manufacturer. Of noteworthy mention, they do have one (Audi being the other) of the best AWD systems on the market; when it works.

Plus one more.
I was trying to reinstall a stereo after my GL was stolen (and recovered) and one day it just wouldn't start. No spark at the plugs, dist, not even the coil. Fine, the coil was cheap so I bought a new one, still no dice. Checked all the fuses, noticed that two were shot: horn and wipers. I assumed this had nothing to do with the starting. WRONG. after reading this thread, the car runs just fine. Who would have thought?
