  1. Well I just returned from my local Subaru Dealership's Service department. yes the Knock sesor was bad, but also the Mass Airflow sensor. Lucky for me it was an "Open recall" . So thanks to all who took the time to assist me on this problem, and for all the good suggestions. mike
  2. good suggestions. pulled the timing belt off this morning and mated the lines on the belt with the marks. however, i did use the marks on the front of the pully (crank?) is there any other marks other than the timing belt and the piston arrow? thanks mike
  3. Well this morning (before work) i've taken the cover off to verify the marks. I've turn the engine by hand about 100 times (at least it felt that way) and cannot get the marks to line up as they were when i installed the belt. it looks like the marks are all one tooth to the left. however, upon digging the old belt out, it had a different part number than the one i placed upon the vehicle. the old belt is labled: 223YU26 and the new one is labled 223YU27. no I don't know the impact, i've emailed the parts supplier (btw they've been great) and have asked them to verify the numbers. ask to the retrace of steps. once i replaced the belt all CEL where out. therefore, i can only assume that the Knock Sen was working. i've check the connection and the wires running to the sen and they look ok. What i'm wondering now is; if the sen is working correctly then the CEL would light if there was a problem not with the sen but with engine? make sense? Mike
  4. I having problems with my 1999 Impressa Outback Sport 2.2l engine (104K). i've done the following over the last week and am just about at my limit. replaced the following: Timing Belt Valve cover gastkets Plug Wires Plugs (from Bauch to NGK) up stream O2 sensor Down stream sensor now the CEL show a knock sensor error or short. car runs well at idle, slow to accelerate, bogs down on speed. cannot get the RPM above 3200 . so i'm thinking either i've miss a tooth on the belt, which makes no sense to me since it runs well at idle. or there is something obvious that i've missed. can anyone tell me what they think? thanks
  5. I too had the same problem with my 99 obs. but only in the summer when the a/c was running and mostly on left turns problem fix when i poked a pencil up the drain pipe and remove the "bug" that has nested there last winter.
  6. Manual Transmission. i've replaced the Fuel Filter and drove it to the local Auto parts store and used their computer. the 2 error codes are as follows: P0141 O2 Sensor heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2) (i've ordered it and should be in tomorrow) P0325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfuntion Bank 1 or 1 Sensor the car will not "chug" if i increase the speed very slowly, ie. ease the gas pedal. So i'm thinking Gas not timing. thanks, mike
  7. I just replaced my Timing Belt on my 1999 Subaru Outback Sport 2.2l engine (104K). Idle is good about 500 rpm, however the car hesitates when I begin to move. Then works well at speeds, and at 2000 rpm, however, around 2500 to 3000 rpm the call begins to boggs down unless I lift off the gas. Yes the check engine light is on, however it was on before I made this change and is related to an O2 sensor. Any suggestions? Btw: the car hesitated before the change, however was not as bad as it is now. Mike
  8. First i want to thank you again for your insight. the spark plug hood does go through the Valve Covers. Also, in answer to your other questions/statements: the Spark Plugs are Bauch dual electro (or something like that) they were recommended by my local NAPA dealer (maybe because the cost more) Yes the check engine light is on, and my local Autozone parts dealer used their computer to determine that it was a O2 sensor (about 80 USD) and was told it really wasn't important. I haven't changed the Fuel Filter since I bought the car, but should do this we i start my tear down this week. I haven't changed the spark plug wires yet either (i'm sure they are OEM and will cost some change to replace, but hey what's money?) my Service Manauls arrived today (180 USD) and they even thru in the binders (11,12,&13). so thanks again and if you know of a "reputable "parts dealer, for the Timing Belt and o-rings/gasket set. let me know.
  9. I have a 1999 impressa outback sport (2.2l SOHC). i've notice that there is oil present on the Spark Plug Hood when changing Spark Plugs. I have about 104K on the engine and have been getting Lousy Gas Mileage. Are the two related? also, since i'm getting to the 105K Timing belt replacement time, i'm thinking about pulling the engine completely to adjust and or replace O-rings and other gaskets. good idea? thank you.
