  1. Gary, The coolant level seems to stay just fine. Occasionally, I detecte a faint smell of coolant but the level never seems to be a problem. I think the local dealer just doesn't want to do anything because I didn't buy from them, and I never go to them for anything.... I'll probably go to the dealer where I purchased the car in another town, not too far away. C
  2. Thank you each for your responses. I agree, it shouldn't be leaking anything...that's what I expected to hear. I thought MAYBE someone would say, "oh yea, the black stuff means the conditioner is working...don't worry." I will go to another dealer and will also have the reigonal rep check it out. thanks for the advice. Corby
  3. I have a 2000 Outback (77K mi) that had a recall notice regarding the HG leak. Dealer added the conditioner back when the recall notice came out. My independant mechanic says the HG is leaking and should be replaced under warranty. I can clearly see black goop leaking from the HG. The dealer says there's no leak and the black goop is proof that the conditioner is working. The independent mechanic says they're just trying to avoid replacing the HG. So who's right? What should I do next? 2000 Outback, 77Kmi.
